What’s quality furniture?
Consider keeping that couch if the furniture remains sturdy with a quality frame.
Frames last longer in chairs and sofas built 10 to 15 years ago or longer, Old furniture is always better built.
Quality may not exist as new furniture is being built with cheaper materials,
Manufacturers have lowered their standards in recent years by using woods previously unsuitable for furniture frames. Quality sofas should feel solid and heavy. Flop around on one to test its sturdiness, then lift it up by the corner and shake it a bit. If it feels light or wobbly, take a pass. Look for a frame made from a kiln-dried hardwood such as oak, alder, birch, maple or, alternatively, high-quality hardwood plywood or marine plywood. Eight-way, hand-tied springs are a hallmark of fine furniture, but sinuous S-shaped springs can provide nearly as much comfort.
Replace a couch or cushioned chair if the frame seems damaged,
If you notice your couch or chair frame is falling apart.
or springs start to pop if the backboard is breaking, you'll know if the frame remains strong.
If the frame of your furniture is in good quality or in good condition, consider re-upholstery.
Upholstery gives consumers a chance to restore their couch with more control over the look and shape of the cushions. You can have round cushions, squared cushions, different fabrics. You get to update it to what you want it to look like.
